Sharing the Light
Sharing the Light is an exploration of the interplay of light and shadow through ceramic objects. It will culminate in the fall of 2023 in an art installation, first at a local venue, and then in main street windows around Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
My theme for Sharing the Light is: Light brings life, warmth, and hope. I chose this theme because, in many ways, we live in a dark world literally and metaphorically. For the next several months, I will work on my personal interpretation and I will create a minimum of 20 vessels from lanterns to oil burners to candle stick holders.
Bringing the light back to our community is more than I can accomplish alone. Thus, the second component of my project is to engage and inspire other community creators so we can act as a collective to restore the light, literally and metaphorically. Through a series of small workshops, participants will hand build a lantern from prepared slab clay from a choice of designs, following detailed instructions during the construction process. Each maker will individualize their creations and we’ll include their lanterns in the art installation.
